Normal is overrated. No better sentiment describes Australian artist Tomas Lineker’s strange but wonderful world of acrylic painting. For him, the more out of place his imagery, the more at home he feels. Unlocked from childhood whimsy, spontaneity and wit, Lineker’s eccentric colour relations and characters harbour a timeless humour and simple sophistication. Following Australian modernist painter, Peter Grahams’ iconic colour blocking techniques, Lineker wields his paintbrush to explore the distortion which takes place between the empiric world and our internal imagining. Through his animated, vivid subjects, Tomas compensates for inner anxieties of social and familial alienation. His outsider perspective is in fact the very driving force behind the confidence he brings to the canvas.
